Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has a golden opportunity to add to his Super Bowl ring collection this coming Sunday. With the Chiefs battling Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, Mahomes will have a shot not just at adding to his two rings but also at increasing his chances of catching former NFL star QB Tom Brady in terms of NFL titles count.

But for Shannon Sharpe, Mahomes doesn’t have to match or surpass Brady’s Super Bowl rings total in order to be considered the GOAT.

“Because it can’t be most rings. Because people say [Michael] Jordan is the GOAT and he doesn’t have the most rings,” Sharpe said during a Nightcaps podcast episode with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.
It comes naturally for Sharpe to use that argument since he has long been known as a strong LeBron James supporter. LeBron, in Sharpe’s book, is the GOAT of basketball even though the Los Angeles Lakers superstar continues to trail MJ in NBA titles. As for the Chiefs signal-caller, Sharpe isn’t calling Mahomes the GOAT just yet, but he appears to put less value on Super Bowls won when it comes to determining who the best football player ever is.
Interestingly enough, Mahomes could have been a three-time Super Bowl champion at this point in time if it wasn’t for Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beating the Chiefs at Super Bowl 55. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that Mahomes already has a strong HOF resume even though he’s just 28 years old and obviously far from done in the NFL.
