Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has received a lot of criticism for his poor quarterback play throughout his NFL career. As a result, his future has become a huge talking point amongst NFL fans and analysts this season. An ESPN analyst suggested that the Bears will move on from their first-round draft pick in 2021.

"It's hard to envision Justin Fields as a Chicago Bear in 2024."

Analyst Dan Orlovsky went on “Get Up” to suggest that Fields will possibly have a difficult time convincing the team that he should be their quarterback of the future. The quarterback has been dealing with an injury for the last few weeks, which has caused him to miss the last few games with the Bears.

“The season started poorly, then he started to play better, and then the injury happened. He’s going to have a six or seven-week window to say two things to Chicago. One, I should be a Bear next season. And then two, don’t use that really early draft pick… on a quarterback. It’s almost impossible- given the situation- to try to do that if you’re Justin Fields.”

Justin Fields Career Path

The Chicago quarterback has had a very up-and-down season in 2023. In six games played this year, Fields has amounted to 1,201 passing yards and 11 touchdowns along with six interceptions. He was having his best career year before he suffered a thumb injury a few weeks ago, and his future is now in question because of it.

Some may argue that Fields is not the problem in Chicago and that the organization does not give him any weapons or protection that he needs to succeed. On the other side of the argument, fans and analysts are saying that if he is as good as people make him out to be, then he should not need all that help to find success.

Chicago is sitting at a 3-7 record and is in last place in the NFC North. Successor Tyson Bagent has been the guy filling in for Fields, and many fans and analysts are saying that he has more potential than him. Chicago has only won two games under Bagent, one coming from a blowout win against the Las Vegas Raiders, and the other from last night’s victory against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football. It will be interesting what the team decides to do at the quarterback position in the future.
