Joel Klatt is one of the most well-known voices in the college football world. His frequent appearances on FOX’s shows during the college football season give him plenty of opportunity to share his thoughts. After the Sugar Bowl, Klatt had a bold claim on Washington Huskie’s quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
"I think he upgrades 13 NFL teams next week… The fact that it wasn't even a debate at the end for the Heisman just shows that people don't watch Washington football."

Joel Klatt On QB Michael Penix Jr.
While everyone is fawning over Caleb Williams and Drake Maye (for good reason), Klatt thinks the Washington quarterback should be in the conversation as well. He went on The Herd on Tuesday and had a bold claim about Penix Jr. “Michael Penix is an elite quarterback. I think he should be drafted in the top five,” Klatt said on the show. He thinks nearly half the teams would be upgrading if they picked up the Heisman Trophy finalist.

Is He Wrong?
This has been a weird year in the NFL for quarterbacks. Between injuries and teams getting experimental, there are a lot of teams that may be looking to upgrade the position. The Giants, Commanders, Patriots, Titans, Falcons, and Raiders are the obvious teams. Then teams like the Broncos and Vikings could be looking for a change at quarterback. One thing is for sure, Penix Jr. has drastically helped his draft stock and if he performs well in the national championship, he could rise even higher.

Joel Klatt is sold and I’m sure many other analysts were impressed with his play against a good Texas defense. This is going to be a fun draft with so many good quarterback prospects and so many teams that need a quarterback.
