The Cleveland Browns had a miraculous season as quarterback Joe Flacco went from being on the couch for half the season to now being the starting quarterback in the playoffs. However, people are going to remember this third quarter against the Houston Texans for a long time.
In the quarter, Joe Flacco threw a pair of pick-sixes and that is never a good sign. However, it is something that has only happened seven times in the history of the NFL Playoffs.
Scored 2 pick sixes in a playoff game
1940 Bears (NFL Champ at WAS) (3)
1975 Rams (Divisional vs STL)
1995 Eagles (Wild Card vs DET)
2001 Rams (Divisional vs GB) (3)
2002 Bucs (SB XXXVII vs OAK) (3)
2007 Seahawks (Wild Card vs WAS)
2023 Texans (Wild Card vs CLE) https://t.co/1nhMVh9YDK— James Smyth (@JamesSmyth621) January 13, 2024
This is going to be something that could be the final game of Flacco’s career and after a terrific first half. The two interceptions were thrown within two minutes of one another as the first was at the 6:05 mark and the second was at 4:06. This is something that is going to be remembered for a long time and Flacco looked very good entering halftime.
Joe Flacco has a history of being elite in the postseason but it seems the magic has run out.
What does this mean for the future of Joe Flacco?
While the Cleveland Browns have a great team with incredible talent that are both healthy and injured this season, Joe Flacco may have just cost himself some significant money for 2024. He was the only person competing against Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin for the Comeback Player of the Year but luckily for him, the ballots for the voting are already submitted before the playoffs.
Flacco looked like he had a chance to be a starting quarterback in the 2024-25 season as he showcased his skills this season. However, people are only going to remember the most recent performance and this is not a great sign. There are going to be good positions for him to be the quarterback option but now it seems like he is going to be slotted as a backup quarterback to a rookie quarterback.
It may be unfair due to his constant success throughout the regular season, but teams are not going to give him a shot to prove himself and lead the way. The best chance would be with the Cleveland Browns but they have quarterback issues of their own.
