The Los Angeles Rams traded Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins this offseason for a 2023 third-round draft pick (eventually selected Alabama DT Byron Young) and tight end Hunter Long. The three-time All-Pro restructured his contract upon his arrival in Miami. According to Over the Cap, Ramsey’s new deal is worth upward of $55 million across the next three seasons.
Jalen Ramsey: From Fifth Overall Pick to Super Bowl Champion
Jalen Ramsey has solidified himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL over the past decade. The fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ramsey earned All-Pro honors in his second season, tallying four interceptions, 17 passes defended, and 63 tackles. After four seasons in Jacksonville, the Florida State product got dealt to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2020 first-round pick, a 2021 first-round pick, and a 2021 fourth-round pick.
Ramsey was instrumental in the Rams’ title run in 2021, posting a career-high 77 tackles and nine TFLs during the regular season. He also added four interceptions and 16 passes defended. In four playoff games, the six-foot-one corner totaled 13 tackles and four passes defended. Ramsey had another productive year in Los Angeles last season, accumulating four interceptions and a career-best 18 passes defended.
Miami Dolphins: Outlook with Jalen Ramsey back in the Mix
The return of Jalen Ramsey would be a breath of fresh air for a struggling Miami Dolphins defense. Miami allows 26 points per game, the 26th-highest mark in the NFL. Opposing passers have played well against the Dolphins, throwing for 1,375 yards and eight touchdowns against two picks in six games. The secondary got gashed in their lone loss against the Buffalo Bills, with quarterback Josh Allen finishing the game 21-of-25 for 320 yards and four touchdowns. Ramsey’s presence in the backend of the defense would strengthen a cornerback room featuring fellow All-Pro Xavien Howard, second-year pro-Kader Kohou, and journeyman Eli Apple.
A slightly improved Miami defense could spell doom for teams across the NFL. The Dolphins already house the best offense in the league, scoring a ridiculous 37.2 points per game. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa leads the NFL in passing yards, while teammate and wide receiver Tyreek Hill is pacing the league in receiving yards and touchdowns. Running back Raheem Mostert also has nine rushing touchdowns, two more than Christian McCaffrey.who has second most in the NFL.
