A video from Philadelphia Eagles practice Thursday shows quarterback Jalen Hurts working in drills with a device on the injured right hand. Hurts suffered an injury to his middle finger during the Eagles’ loss to the New York Giants in Week 18.
Hurts wasn’t sure if the injury would keep him from playing in the Eagles’ Wild Card matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. X-ray results showed he doesn’t have a fracture, but he’s dealing with a painful injury.
According to Michael David Smith with NBC Sports, Hurts said he did not attempt a pass between the Giants game and practice Thursday:
Asked today if he has attempted to throw this week, Hurts says he hasn’t, but he also sounded optimistic about his availability for Monday night’s playoff game against the Buccaneers.
“I have not. I have not. Obviously, leaving that game and attempting to go back in that game probably wasn’t physically the best idea,” Hurts said. “I can assure you everything’s progressing in the right way.”
Hurts said the finger hurt more the day after the game than it did when he initially injured it, and he said he’s taking it day by day in his recovery.
“Everything is a challenge when you have a finger out of place.”
Videos from Philadelphia Eagles practice show Hurts wearing gloves
A few videos at Eagles practice Thursday from beat reports appeared on X Thursday. Per ESPN‘s Tim McManus and 94WIP‘s Eliot Shorr-Parks, Hurts was seen on the practice field attempting limited short passes. Hurts was spotted wearing a glove on his throwing hand.

Hurts has a few more days to heal before playing the Buccaneers. The Eagles were given the Monday night game, so Hurts has an extra day of rest. The Eagles will hope that’s enough time for Hurts to take the gloves off against Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers.
