The NFL sent Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts a prickly punishment ahead of his game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17. Hurts was flagged last week for a horsecollar tackle against a New York Giants defender in Week 16.
Hurts threw a 76-yard pick-six in the third quarter. The star quarterback must have been frustrated by the mistake because he grabbed Adoree Jackson near the neck and threw the cornerback to the ground in the end zone after the Gaints scored.
The penalty was costly.
Philadelphia Eagles QB receives a fine Saturday
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the league fined Hurts for the penalty on Saturday. Hurts owes $16,391 for his horsecollar tackle of Jackson.

That figure is peanuts to Hurts, as he’s making $51 million annually for the Eagles. But the punishment is severe enough that Hurts will think twice before grabbing a defender by the neck and throwing him down. That kind of tackle is dangerous.
Hurts can avoid that situation by not turning the ball over. He has 18 of those this season (Ten more turnovers than he had in the 2022 season). The Eagles hope he can clean up his game before the playoffs in two weeks.
