The Iowa State Cyclones football program has grown stronger and stronger on the recruiting front under Head Coach Matt Campbell. On Wednesday, ISU will learn if they nabbed a commitment from a very talented wide receiver in Lincoln’s Beni Ngoyi.
The Nebraska native has narrowed down his choices for a college program to three teams: Nebraska, Iowa State and Washington. A formal announcement is coming Wednesday at 1 p.m. CT, according to his Twitter page. Ngoyi, who will graduate high school in the class of 2023, is a 6’4 receiver with a strong track and field background. Ngoyi reportedly runs a 4.38 40, which is premier speed at any level. He started his high school career as a defensive back before transitioning to wide receiver. As a junior he posted 467 yards on 25 catches, along with 6 touchdowns.

Ngoyi is rated a three-star recruit, but that should not disappoint the Cyclone faithful. Remember Hakeem Butler and his ‘go up and get it’ ability? He came to Ames as a two-star recruit. Ngoyi was the No. 9 rated prospect in the state of Nebraska and had no shortage of suitors, including Kansas, Minnesota and Pitt.
ISU’s Need at Receiver
ISU turns to the Hunter Dekkers era this fall after four seasons with Brock Purdy at the helm. Dekkers is one of the highest-rated recruits at the quarterback position ISU has ever had. He is also a decorated signal caller already. Dekkers won his first state title as quarterback of the West Sioux Falcons and helped build that program into a powerhouse. He was also a dominant stretch-forward in basketball and a very successful pitcher. His size and mobility will make him a unique fixture for the Cyclones in coming years.
Adding a dynamic receiver would set Dekkers up with a playmaker who could take the Cyclones to the next level. The team has not won the Big 12 Championship in the 26 years it has been part of the conference. As for the 2022 season, Xavier Hutchinson will be the top target on the team. Hutchinson is a two-time All-Big-12 first teamer. The Cyclones lose some skill players like Charlie Kolar and most notably Breece Hall, but the offensive line is much more experienced than a year ago.
