The Indianapolis Colts are fighting a potential playoff spot in the AFC with their 6-5 record entering Week 13 of the season. However, it appears one of their star players has suffered an injury as it is being reported that All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor has suffered a thumb injury during the Week 12 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
#Colts RB Jonathan Taylor, fresh off a 91-yard, 2-TD performance in a win over the #Bucs, suffered an injured thumb that is requiring further evaluation and puts his status in doubt going forward, sources say.

Jonathan Taylor has been playing pretty well this season as he has appeared in seven games and has 100 rushes for 414 yards (4.1 yards per attempt) with four rushing touchdowns as well as 16 receptions for 137 yards (8.6 yards per catch) with a receiving touchdown this season. This would be the second injury that could potentially cause the Indianapolis Colts running back time as he missed the beginning of the year due to hamstring issues.
This Indianapolis Colts team has been doing extremely well despite losing their rookie starting quarterback Anthony Richardson and now potentially losing running back Jonathan Taylor.
Can the Indianapolis Colts make the playoffs without Jonathan Taylor healthy?
The Indianapolis Colts are currently sitting two games behind the Jacksonville Jaguars, but after losing the two games against them earlier this season, they would need to wind up with a better record than Jacksonville to win the division and get a home playoff game. The Colts are in the playoffs if the season were to end as they hold tiebreakers over the Houston Texans and the Denver Broncos.
Their remaining schedule has some potential playoff teams, including a Week 18 matchup against a divisional opponent fighting for a playoff spot as well. Below is the rest of their schedule.
Indianapolis Colts remaining schedule
- Week 13: at Tennessee Titans
- Week 14: at Cincinnati Bengals
- Week 15: vs Pittsburgh Steelers
- Week 16: at Atlanta Falcons
- Week 17: vs Las Vegas Raiders
- Week 18: vs Houston Texans
The Colts have running back Zack Moss running well with a pair of 100-yard rushing games so far. Their offense is tied for eighth in the NFL with 24.5 points per game scored but their defense has struggled as their 24.4 points per game allowed is 27th. If the defense can improve throughout the remainder of the year, there will be some improvement going forward.
With just a +1 point differential this year, it will be tough to continue winning games they way they have been.
