Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor made an eye-opening statement about his new head coach this season. Taylor’s message appears to look like a shot at former Colts head coach Frank Reich.

Reich was let go in the middle of last season after failing to win games with the Colts. Reich’s offenses didn’t perform well toward the end of his tenure.
They were underwhelming, considering Reich was thought to be a quarterback “whisperer” following his work as the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator during their Super Bowl run with Nick Foles. Reich could not win a playoff game with Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, or Matt Ryan under center.
The Colts chose another former Eagles offensive coordinator as Reich’s replacement this offseason, Shane Steichen. Steichen had to wait several games into the regular season before he could use one of his best weapons in Taylor.
Did Taylor take a shot at the Indianapolis Colts previous HC?
Taylor earned his first rushing touchdown of the season against the Cleveland Browns in Week 7. Per the Colts’ website, Taylor offered praise of Steichen that appears to be a subtle shot at how Reich’s offense was working in Indianapolis the previous few seasons:
“I’ve mentioned this to you guys over the past few weeks. [Steichen’s] letting the players show their talents and putting in certain schemes to let them flourish,” Taylor said. “You never know what we’ll come out in. You’ll never know what play we’ll be running. It’s just the offensive mind of Shane Steichen.”
Steichen is keeping defenses guessing this season and playing to his players strengths. The Panthers are not.
Even with QB1, rookie Anthony Richardson out, the Colts have scored the fifth most points this season. The Panthers have scored the seventh-least points this season. One would assume Taylor is much happier to be in Steichen’s new system than he has in previous ones.
