Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will undergo shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
The Indianapolis Colts selected Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The six-foot-four, 244-pound dual-threat quarterback shined at the NFL combine, resulting in his draft stock skyrocketing despite posting lackluster numbers with the Florida Gators. However, after just four games, Richardson has been shut down for the year and will now set his sights on the 2024 season.

The big fantasy loser in the Anthony Richardson news is all of us, because he’s fun.
Hoping for a quick recovery and ready to go Week 1, 2024.

Anthony Richardson out for the season
– idiotic play call exposed him unnecessarily.. total coaching malpractice and infuriating
– no play in #Colts history is a dumb as Pagano’s fake punt (Happy Anniversary) but the AR play call is close— Dan Dakich (@dandakich) October 18, 2023
I cannot imagine this outcome as a Colts fan. What a set back for the onboarding process of Anthony Richardson.
Most QBs reach their true potential in their 3rd season. Push that back a year for the Colts.
If we draft a QB, I’m praying this doesn’t happen 🙏#SKOL https://t.co/qz6ywBJDew

I kept Anthony Richardson instead of trading him and now he’s out for the year. This sucks from an entertainment perspective and for Colts fans. Such a good, young talent

Anthony Richardson really about to be Andrew Luck all over again. QBs need to avoid Indianapolis Colts. They don’t project their most prized possessions AT ALL! Why they run him so much is crazy!

What a nightmare for Anthony Richardson. Designed run plays are the reason he injured his throwing arm. I truly hope he recovers well from his surgery. Shame on the colts.

Anthony Richardson: Indianapolis Colts QB Showed Promise in Rookie Campaign
Richardson played his college ball at the University of Florida from 2020-2022. However, he struggled as a passer, completing just 55% of his passes for 3,105 yards and 24 touchdowns against 15 interceptions in 24 games. Despite the uninspiring throwing numbers, the Florida native displayed his elite rushing ability, taking 161 carries for 1,116 yards and 12 scores over three years. Richardson declared for the NFL draft after his junior year and became the buzz of the league during the annual combine in Indianapolis. Per the Relative Athletic Score (RAS) metric, the 21-year-old’s measurable ranked him as the most athletic quarterback in league history.
The Indianapolis Colts selected Anthony Richardson with the fourth pick of the 2023 NFL draft. Richardson was the third quarterback poached off the board, following Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud. The rookie shined in his regular-season debut, going 24-of-37 for 233 yards and one touchdown against a pick. He also ran ten times for 40 yards and a score. Richardson led the Colts to victory in Week 2, tallying two rushing touchdowns, but left the contest early in the second quarter with a concussion.
Anthony Richardson finished his rookie year with 577 passing yards and seven total touchdowns against two turnovers. The Indianapolis Colts went 2-2 during his starts. The Colts will now turn to backup Gardner Minshew for the remainder of the year. The fifth-year pro has completed 65% of his passes this season for 882 yards and three scores against three picks. He floundered last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, throwing three interceptions in a 37-20 loss. The Colts also have Sam Ehlinger and Kellen Mond on the roster.
