Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is one of the best players in the history of the NFL. A Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, there is no denying his greatness on the field. That being said, there have been, and continue to be, concerns regarding his character off of it.
During his playing career, Favre was at the center of multiple controversies. He famously checked himself into rehab to fight his addiction to painkillers at the height of his prime. But while fighting and beating addiction is admirable, other controversies involving the Packers legend were far more concerning.
While playing for the New York Jets in 2008, Favre allegedly sent leud pictures of himself to NFL sideline reporter Jenn Sterger. The scandal did not become public knowledge until 2010, and the then Minnesota Vikings quarterback was fined $50,000 for failing to cooperate with the NFL’s investigation.
In 2011, Favre was sued for sexual harassment by two former Jets massage therapists, one of whom claimed she had received suggestive text messages from him. Years later, he and the plaintiffs reached a settlement in that case.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Was Allegedly Involved in the Mississippi Welfare Scandal

Of course, the latest controversy involving Favre today is the Mississippi Welfare Scandal. It is important to note, up front, that the former Packers quarterback as not been convicted of any crimes in relation to the scandal. In fact, he has not even been indicted.
That being said, the allegations brought against him and dozens of others in a lawsuit and reports down in Mississippi are concerning. As fans know by now, Favre is accused of participating in the theft of millions of dollars from his home state.
According to those allegations, Favre participated in the illegal transfer of funds meant for impoverished families in Mississippi in order to build a new volleyball stadium at his daughter’s college.
Again, it is important to realize that Favre has not been indicted for any crimes. He has not addressed the allegations in public due to a gag order from the judge presiding over the case. That being said, one of his business partners has already pled guilty to wire fraud.
However, he did file lawsuits against Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe and ESPN personality Pat McAfee for comments they made about him when the allegations were made public.
Both lawsuits have been dismissed.

According to a report by the Associated Press, Favre will appear before a Republican-led congressional committee that is investigating “how states are falling short on using welfare to help families in need.”
Per the report, the hearing is on Tuesday.
Favre, a vocal Republican and supporter of former President Donald Trump himself, may not be able to say much in response to questions, though.
As mentioned, the judge presiding over the Mississippi welfare lawsuit has issued a gag order. This would prevent the Hall of Fame quarterback from answering any questions regarding his alleged involvement in the scandal.
