The Green Bay Packers are 2-2 after falling to the Minnesota Vikings in Week Four by the score of 31-29. As close as the game ended up being, there was a point when the Packers trailed 28-0. Just about everything that could have gone wrong did.
Quarterback Jordan Love, who was playing in his first game since spraining his MCL in Week One, threw three interceptions, two of which came in the first half. Green Bay’s defense, playing without Jaire Alexander and Carrington Valentine, struggled to contain Vikings wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in the first half.
Perhaps most frustratingly, kicker Brayden Narveson missed two field goals that are within his range.
The Green Bay Packers Have Not Been Able to Find a Suitable Replacement for Mason Crosby
At the end of the 2022 NFL season, the Packers made a series of difficult decisions to move on from some popular veterans. Of course, the most notable of these was the trade of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets in order to pave the way for Love to take over as the starting quarterback.
This transition ended up being a smooth one. After a rough start to the 2023 NFL season, Love guided the Packers to the NFL Playoffs while having the best first year by a Green Bay starting quarterback in franchise history. The fact that the Packers had developed Love for three years prior to him taking over helped make the move successful.
Another veteran who was not brought back after the 2022 season was kicker Mason Crosby, the Packers’ all-time scoring leader. Since they did not have another kicker waiting in the wings, Green Bay drafted Anders Carlson in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Carlson had a disastrous season for the Packers, leading the NFL in missed kicks. He lost the training camp battle in 2024 to veteran Greg Joseph, who was subsequently released after the Packers signed Brayden Narveson, their current kicker.
Unfortunately, Narveson has not been an upgrade.
Green Bay Packers Fans Want Brandon McManus to Be Their Kicker
When the Packers signed Narveson off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans, fans had high expectations because he had been so good for his former team during the preseason. Unfortunately, that has not translated to Green Bay yet.
Narveson missed a field goal in each of the Packers’ first two games. He also missed one in their victory over the Titans in Week Three, but that miss was negated by a penalty.
As mentioned, he missed both of his kicks against the Viking on Sunday.
Due his struggles, compounded with the frustrations with Carlson from last year, Packers fans have no patience with Narveson.
On Monday, it was announced that free agent kicker Brandon McManus will not be punished after they found insufficient evidence to claims that he sexually harassed flight attendants while with the Jaguars last year.
The NFL will not discipline free-agent kicker Brandon McManus after finding insufficient evidence that a violation of the personal conduct policy occurred.
McManus, who was accused in a civil lawsuit of sexual misconduct on a #Jaguars flight last season, remains free to sign.
