The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings are set to face off against each other for the first time this season. Minnesota, at 3-0, is traveling to Lambeau Field for a game that will see Vikings running back Aaron Jones face his former team for the first time since they released him during the offseason. The Packers, at 2-1, are hoping that their star quarterback, Jordan Love, will be able to play after he missed the last two games with a sprained MCL.
One of the most highly anticipated matchups in this game is the battle between Vikings All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson and Packers All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander. Both are among the best players in the NFL at their respective positions, but they have only been on the field at the same time in four of the eight games their two teams have played against each other since Jefferson entered the league in 2020.
Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson Called Out Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander on Thursday
During his media availability on Thursday, Jefferson was asked about going up against Alexander again for the first time since the 2022 NFL season when Alexander did the Griddy over him after breaking up a pass. Jefferson responded:
“”He likes to do that stuff to get inside someone’s head. I’m not really tripping on that. I’m going to just get my Griddy in his end zone. So, I’m not tripping on it at all. I’m excited for the matchup.”
“Always just [trying] to knickknack at every little thing and just try to play the head game. Just try to hit you a little extra or try to push you a little extra than normal people do. But I understand that it’s a tactic. It’s a tactic to get inside my head and to mess up my game plan and what I’m doing, but it doesn’t really work.
“I understand that he has some help over the top sometimes and he likes to do the jump jam and likes to put hands on to disrupt the route, but we have a plan for it. I can’t wait to go up against it honestly.”
In the four games that Jefferson and Alexander have played against each other, the Vikings wide receiver has just one catch for 12 yards when being covered by the Packers’ star. That catch happened in 2020.
Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Was a DNP at Practice on Friday
According to multiple Packers media members in Green Bay on Friday, Alexander did not practice with the rest of the team. Instead, he remained inside the Don Hutson Center with injured Packers Carrington Valentine and Jordan Morgan.
