Georgia’s NFL draft prospect Jalen Carter is back at the NFL Combine, ESPN is reporting Thursday morning, one day after turning himself in to Clarke County, Ga. police after being formally charged with reckless driving. The wreck came shortly after the Bulldogs’ national championship game when he allegedly raced another car on Jan. 15, and teammate Devin Willock and athletic department staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed in the two-car wreck.

According to online public records in Clarke County, Carter was booked at 11:33 p.m. ET on Wednesday, and posted $4,000 bail, and was released at 11:49 p.m., allowing him to make his way back to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine.

The standout defensive lineman turned to Twitter early Wednesday afternoon and explained that he was turning himself in on the charges, which he did. His full  Tweet is seen below. It was the first Tweet from his account since Jan. 14, just hours before the wreck.

“It is my intention to return to Athens to answer the misdemeanor charges against me and to make certain that the complete and accurate truth is presented. There is no question in my mind that when all of the facts are known that I will be fully exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing,” Carter Tweeted.

Police from Athens-Clarke County estimated the two vehicles likely were driving more than 100 miles per hour when the wreck happened.

“The evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists, and drove at high rates of speed, in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other,” Athens-Clarke County police said in a statement.

Carter is listed as a potential first-round draft pick by our NFL draft partners at DraftScout.com, and he held an NFL combine invite, which is going on currently in Indianapolis. He is a 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive line prospect from Apopka, Fla., and played a key role in the national title run in 2022.
