Jimmy Garoppolo, starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has reportedly attracted trade interest from the Dolphins. Does the move make sense for Miami? Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images
The One Reason Garoppolo To Miami Makes Sense
The rumors about which quarterback replaces Tua Tagovailoa never end. A Jimmy Garoppolo trade, makes sense for the Miami Dolphins mainly because of new Head Coach Mike McDaniel. Garoppolo is the current starter for the San Francisco 49ers. McDaniel was the 49ers running game coordinator. There should not be much, if any new langauge, audibles, protections, or part of the playbook to learn for him. Raheem Mostert, former 49ers running back, may help Garoppolo a little as well. Mostert’s coming off a severe knee injury but he should of had a chance to get to know some players and staff through OTAs.

Deleted: Tua Tagovailoa is the main reason a Garoppolo trade doesn’t make sense for Miami. The Dolphins must find out if he is their starter beyond this season. Miami’s upgraded weapons will make it easier to find out if he is or not. If Tua struggles, gets hurt, or something else unforseen happens, the team signed Teddy Bridgewater as his backup. Bridgewater’s experience starter makes it eay for him to step in at any point. For Tua’s confidence and stability of the offense he needs to solidify that he will and can be the starter for the entire season.
Deleted:None of NNN None of Garoppolo’s injuries are as bad as Tua’s hip injury, but Garopppolo still has a long injury history. Trading for a quarteback for who, like Tua, staying healthy has not always been easy does not make sense. It makes even less sense when an often injured quarterback is due $27 million this year. The difference between Miami’s offensive line and San Francisco’s last year is obvious. Garoppolo likely will not be as well protected, by the line or the running game. Finally, despite trading five picks for Tyreek Hill, Miami kept its two first round picks for next year. No one on the team wants to see Tua fail but if he does the Dolphins have other options.
