The Carolina Panthers are set to make a second major midseason coaching change in two seasons. The Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule after five games last season.
The Panthers, who knew they needed a quarterback in this year’s draft, hired a head coach who was also fired midseason in 2022. The Indianapolis Colts fired Reich after starting last season 3-5-1 and failing to be the quarterback whisperer with Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan.
Reich’s Panthers have had a slow start to the season after drafting Bryce Young in April. The offense is a major reason the Panthers are 0-6 to start the campaign. Reich seemingly understands there needs to be a change before the year continues to spiral.
The Carolina Panthers announce coaching change
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, Reich told the Panthers players Monday that offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will take take over the play-calling from Reich.
#Panthers coach Frank Reich informed players today he has decided to hand over play-calling duties to OC Thomas Brown, sources tell me, @MikeGarafolo and @RapSheet.
Brown, 37, is highly regarded. Now, with Carolina 0-6, he’ll call the shots for No. 1 pick Bryce Young. pic.twitter.com/vNjFyfRKor

Brown was an offensive coordinator with the Miami Hurricanes from 2016-18. He won Super Bowl LVI as the assistant head coach for the Los Angeles Rams.
Reich can now focus on the day-to-day operations of being a head coach. Brown’s job won’t be easy. The Panthers still have the problem of working with subpar talent on the offensive line and at wide receiver.
