Despite being one of the stronger teams in the NFL, at least on paper, Ryan Clark believes that the Buffalo Bills are not in a position to contend for the Super Bowl anytime soon. The ESPN NFL analyst made his true feelings known when he recently chopped it up with Stephen A. Smith in his podcast.
“The window’s closed on this team,” Clark said about Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. We always go back to the 13-second Tyreek Hill play late in the game. That was not his shining moment.”
“But when you look at what this defense was and you look at the totality of the year, this defense was really good. You have Kansas City at its weakest as we’ve seen it. You have them in Buffalo at Orchard Park and you can’t finish it? When will you get that chance again? Not to mention the Baltimore Ravens got better,” he added.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Buffalo Bills made it to the NFL playoffs but never came close to winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Last season, they made it to the Divisional Round but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs yet again.
Ryan Clark says that the Buffalo Bills need to have a “new iteration”
Ryan Clark made this claim because the Buffalo Bills had to oversee some key departures this summer, particularly on the defensive end. The Buffalo Bills just cut Tre’Davious White, while Jordan Poyer will play for the Miami Dolphins in 2024 after signing a one-year contract on Thursday.
On offense, however, the Buffalo Bills added several pieces to help Josh Allen, as they signed Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel on separate deals.
At least the Buffalo Bills don’t have a QB problem since they still have Josh Allen, who is among the best signal-callers in the NFL. Last regular season, Josh Allen had 4,306 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions for a 66.5 completion percentage. He also rushed for 524 yards for an additional 15 touchdowns.
But because they still don’t have much cap room, the Buffalo Bills might have to let go of a few more key players, which will further diminish the overall quality of the squad ahead of next season.
