In the 2024 NFL Draft this April, Ohio State Buckeye star Marvin Harrison Jr is the number one wide receiver draft prospect in the entire draft. Marvin Harrison Jr is the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison Sr. Harrison Sr was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the first round with the 19th pick overall in the 1996 NFL Draft. Marvin Harrison Jr will most likely be taken a lot sooner than his father was. It would be a surprise if he went outside the top 10; even outside the top 5 would seem bizarre.
There are plenty of reasons why Marvin Harrison Jr will be the first wide receiver off the board in April. To start, Harrison Jr is a significant body wide receiver. He stands at 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 204 pounds. His size and athletic ability have allowed him to dominate college ball, and he will let his dominance continue with whichever team is lucky enough to grab him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In 2022, as his first year as a full-time starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Marvin Harrison Jr put up over 1,200 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 77 receptions; in 2023, Harrison Jr once again put up over 1200 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, but this time he did it with ten fewer receptions of 67 receptions.
There are plenty of legends to compare Marvin Harrison Jr to.
With his incredible size and speed, he is being compared to NFL Hall of Famer and arguably one of the greatest wide receivers ever to do it, Randy Moss. While I understand the comparison with size and speed, It is hard for me to use this as a comparison because Randy Moss was just so dominant in his college days. Moss put up nearly double the numbers that Marvin Harrison Jr put up.
The better comparison for Marvin Harrison Jr is another one of the greatest wide receivers to play the game, and that is Larry Fitzgerald. Harrison Jr and Fitzgerald are just about the same size and have put up very similar numbers. It really does not matter which NFL legend you prefer to compare Marvin Harrison Jr to; he is a special player who is going to make an instant impact in the NFL.
While reports are that Marvin Harrison Jr is still undecided on whether he wants to commit to the NFL Draft this April, he will have plenty of suitors for him if he does decide to enter the draft.
Marvin Harrison Jr should enter the 2024 NFL Draft.
The first team that would most likely be calling Marvin Harrison Jr is the abysmal Chicago Bears. With the Chicago Bears most likely having two draft picks in the top 5, they are a shoo-in to take Harrison Jr. At the time of writing this article, the Chicago Bears currently own the number one overall pick from the Carolina Panthers and their pick at number 4 overall.
The Chicago Bears will definitely have the best odds to land the star wide receiver. If the Chicago Bears end up going a different route with the number one overall pick, Marvin Harrison Jr could most likely follow in the footsteps of Larry Fitzgerald and be drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, who currently own the second overall pick, if they do not decide to move on from Kyler Murray.
Wherever Marvin Harrison Jr ends up, that team will be lucky to have him. He should be a player who takes very little time getting adjusted to the NFL. Marvin Harrison Jr. could quickly become not only the number one wide receiver for whichever team drafts him but also the number one pass catcher for that team. He is going to end up being a star and should end up right next to his father in the Hall Of Fame when his career comes to an end.
