The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly making one of their star wide receivers available in the trade market amid their public quarterback flirtation with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson. The Steelers are trying to boost their quarterback room.
Will the Pittsburgh Steelers have anyone to throw to?
One issue: Will Kenny Pickett or his replacement (possibly Wilson) have anyone worthwhile to throw to next season?
On Friday, the Steelers released wide receiver Allen Robinson in a bid to save $10 million against their cap. Losing Robinson isn’t that big of a deal. However, his loss could be bigger on the depth chart if they lose Diontae Johnson.
The Steelers are open to trading Diontae Johnson
Per Dianna Russini with The Athletic, the Steelers are open to trading Johnson before the 2024 season. They’re on the receiving end of phone calls from league general managers who would like the All-Pro pass catcher on their roster this fall.
The Steelers are open to listening to trade offers on WR Diontae Johnson. There is interest from teams around the league as GMs are getting set for free agency.

Johnson would be a major loss for the WR corps
The Steelers’ wide receiver corps would take a significant hit if they were to trade Johnson next season. The Steelers would ask a veteran quarterback, Pickett or Mason Rudolph, to throw to a group where only George Pickens’ name stands out in the wide receiver room.
The Steelers would have to bank a pass catcher from the draft to come in and make an impact on a crucial year for Pickett and the staff in Pittsburgh if they traded Johnson.
