Former president Donald Trump is aware of the viral conspiracy floating this week that the NFL and government colluded for the Kansas City Chiefs to make this year’s Super Bowl. The Trump campaign released a statement regarding a potential endorsement of President Joe Biden by Taylor Swift.
On Sunday, the Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens to advance to the Super Bowl. Since the victory, numerous voices in the GOP have connected the Chiefs’ win to a conspiracy to get people to vote for Biden in November.
Conservative voices think Taylor Swift will endorse Biden
Vivek Ramaswamy, who recently dropped out as a candidate in the GOP presidential primary, alleged Swift’s relationship with Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce was propped up “artificially” this fall. Ramaswamy thinks Swift and Kelce could endorse Biden shortly:
“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month. And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months.”

Several other right-wing media members have voiced similar conspiracies. Some think Swift could endorse Biden during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Others have gone as far as to suggest the “deep state” could be involved in the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs making it to the Super Bowl.
Taylor Swift has a history with the left
According to Jonathan Weisman with the New York Times, much of the conservative backlash against Swift and Kelce started in the fall when the musical pop artist encouraged her followers on Instagram to register to vote. (One has to wonder why those on the right don’t think Swift has followers who would register and vote Republican.) Swift has a history of endorsing Democrat politicians.
Kelce has appeared in advertisements for some companies those on the right have taken issues with in previous years:
“The right has been fuming about Ms. Swift since September, when she urged her fans on Instagram to register to vote, and the online outfit Vote.org reported a surge of 35,000 registrations in response. Ms. Swift had embarked on a world tour that helped make her a billionaire. Gavin Newsom, the California governor, praised her as“profoundly powerful.” And then Time magazine made her Person of the Year in December, kicking off another round of MAGA indignation.
The love story that linked her world with the N.F.L. has proved incendiary. Mr. Kelce’s advertisements promoting Pfizer’s Covidvaccine and Bud Light — already a target of outrage from the right over a social media promotion with a transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney — added fuel to that raging fire.”
Donald Trump’s campaign releases a statement
Per Weisman’s report, the Trump campaign released a statement regarding the possibility that Swift will endorse Biden in the future:
The Trump campaign, which had initially planned to ignore the frenzy, dispatched Karoline Leavitt, a campaign spokeswoman, to dismiss concerns about a potential Biden endorsement.
“I don’t think this endorsement will save him from the calamity” of his record, she said.
The Trump campaign isn’t worried about Swift. And they shouldn’t be. Biden is a deeply unpopular president. The NYT recently published an opinion from Mary Zeigler admitting Pro Choice voters might not vote for Biden this year:
“For many Americans who support abortion rights, the election in November will most likely come down to a choice between voting for President Biden and staying home. They won’t vote for the man who ensured Roe v. Wade’s demise, but many of them are unenthusiastic about the prospect of Mr. Biden being the Democratic nominee.”
The Swift bump might help in the box office, but it won’t help enough in the ballot box to matter. The people who believe the NFL rigged the Chiefs’ victory in the AFC Championship Game are going to vote for Trump even when the halftime show turns out to be a lame musical production.
