The Detroit Lions shocked the NFL on opening night when they marched into Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday Night and knocked off the reigning Super Bowl Champs.  The Kansas City Chiefs were down two stars in their matchup vs. the Lions, Travis Kelce (injury) and DT Chris Jones (holdout).

By the end of the game, however, the biggest storyline (next to the Lions winning) was the numerous missed penalties on the Chiefs.  A series of missed calls against Kansas City Chiefs’ tackle Jawaan Taylor during the team’s 21-20 loss to the Detroit Lions had social media buzzing.

Detroit Lions Fans Take To Social Media To Rip NFL Officiating Of Kansas City Chiefs’ Jawaan Taylor

As the saying goes, you never know what the officials are going to call a game until it starts, and when the first half of the Chiefs-Lions game started, it certainly looked as if the officiating crew led by John Hussey were especially concerned about Patrick Mahomes’ protection throughout the game.

Jawaan Taylor, the new right tackle for the Chiefs who signed a four-year, $80 million contract this offseason, seemed to leave his pre-snap position more frequently than not, and not one penalty was called in the first half of the game.

When fans (specifically Lions fans) reacted on social media passionately:

this level of foolery from the refs should have everyone that ref that crew reprimanded that’s actually unacceptable it took em almost a full game to call false start https://t.co/JdMpRnAwiH

Jawaan got away with a few false starts tonight

The referees gave him TOO much leeway https://t.co/NBJ7AiOVyT

Refs are a joke for letting that nonsense go on all game https://t.co/IXjZXq6NAX
