The Detroit Lions dominated the Dallas Cowboys from the coinflip onward on their way to an incredible 47-9 win. Per the broadcast, 47 points is the second-most points the Lions have ever scored on the road, following only a 50+ point performance against the Green Bay Packers decades ago.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff had a perfect 158.3 passer rating, completing 18 of 25 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns. Detroit’s run game, led by David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs (12 carries apiece), ran all over the Cowboys’ defense to the tune of 184 yards. Montgomery had two rushing touchdowns.
Obviously, the Lions defense dominated as well. Brian Branch had two interceptions and Kerby Joseph had one. As a unit, Detroit kept Dallas out of the end zone, even when the game was well out of hand and backups were playing for both teams.
Unfortunately, the Lions did suffer one significant loss in their otherwise impressive win.
Detroit Lions Pass Rusher Aidan Hutchinson Broke His Tibia
As fans are well-aware, Detroit’s best defensive player, pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, suffered a serious lower leg injury on a sack of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
The video below shows the injury, but be warned: it is not for the weak of heart:

It was not long before the Lions ruled Hutchinson out for the rest of the game. Obviously, his season is over.
But the gruesome details of his injury still made fans cringe on social media.
Detroit Lions and NFL Fans React the Gruesome Aidan Hutchinson Injury
As it turns out, Hutchinson suffered a compound fracture, which means that his bone broke through his skin. Not only was he carted off the field, but he was also taken to a Dallas hospital for emergency surgery.

For those that don’t understand.. this is the same injury that ruined Joe Theisman and Alex Smith’s careers.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that there is some good news, however. He stated, “While Aidan Hutchinson’s broken tibia is obviously season-ending, the early prognosis is that being ready for 2025 shouldn’t be an issue. All things considered, that’s good news.”
That is certainly excellent news. As a few fans noted above, this kind of injury has ended careers. Hopefully the early prognosis is correct, and he can be back at full strength next year.
