The Denver Broncos’ rebuilding efforts under Sean Payton begin to ramp up despite the offseason being a good couple of weeks away from starting.

They have made their moves in an attempt to address the messy quarterback situation and are looking to clean up the other issues in their roster. Their latest hire is the latest in the team’s efforts to fix any mess they have with the roster.
Denver Broncos hire former Saints director to help with wages
Adam Schefter reported that the Denver Broncos are finalizing the acquisition of Cody Rager, one of Sean Payton’s former colleagues at the New Orleans Saints, to directly address their salary cap concerns.
Broncos are finalizing the hire of former Saints assistant scouting director Cody Rager in a VP role within their personnel department, per source.
Rager will provide a fresh perspective for GM George Paton’s staff and has familiarity with HC Sean Payton from their time together…

The move is a clear move to help Payton have better security of his team’s finances. The team currently has -$25 million in cap space, which makes it impossible for the team to improve their squad without gutting their future in the process.

The Broncos need all the help they could get if they want to overhaul the roster. They finished the 2023 season with an 8-9 record and were below average in both offense and defense. If they want to improve their roster, they must make moves to offload some of the dead salary they are incurring. The Broncos hope Rager can help with that
Broncos to select Terrion Arnold, per Daniel Jeremiah’s mock draft
Draft season is unofficially underway with 30 of the 32 teams completely out of the Super Bowl picture. For NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah, he believes the Denver Broncos will use their 12th overall pick to select Alabama’s Terrion Arnold.

The Broncos are currently lacking a #2 corner to play opposite Patrick Surtain and shore up their pass defense. Arnold has the typical height for a corner, and his 74 tackles, 20 pass breakups, six interceptions, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery from 2022 until 2023 makes him a viable option for Payton’s Broncos.
It also helps that Surtain is an Alabama alum, though they didn’t meet on campus. However, the SEC connection would help turn the Denver Broncos into one of the more dangerous secondaries in the NFL.
