Darren Waller has been one of the more interesting players to keep tabs on throughout the offseason but he will not be suiting up for the New York Giants next season as he officially announced his retirement from the National Football League.On his official YouTube channel, Darren Waller released a video titled “Straight from Darren Waller: A Beautiful Journey“, where the 31-year-old announced his retirement from the National Football League.
In the video, he announces that he retiring from the league, he discussed not being able to breathe, losing consciousness and shaking uncontrollably in his condo. He said he called 911 and ended up being hospitalized. Waller used that experience to self-reflect and lost his passion for football as well as having too much co-dependency with his marriage.
“I made the decision to officially retire from the NFL.”
Darren Waller explained leaving $30 million over the next three years on the table and that he wanted to take control of his life.

Darren Waller has been all over the map since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He played two years for the Ravens, five years with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and one season with the New York Giants. In his career, he made one Pro Bowl and was third in the 2019 Comeback Player of the Year.
Waller finished played 86 games (63 starts) and had 350 catches on 501 targets for 4,124 yards (11.8 yards per reception) and 20 touchdowns catches. He also tallied three rushing attempts for 26 yards and a rushing touchdown.
His career is going to be remembered as more of a “what if” story as injuries plagued him as he played 16 games twice in his nine-year career. However, he possessed the talent to be a top tight end in the NFL but just never was able to constantly stay at that height.
