The Dallas Cowboys had a disappointing 2023-24 NFL season to say the least. Despite having the second seed in the NFC, the Cowboys were upset in historical fashion by the Green Bay Packers in the wild card round. Now, Dallas has to take a long hard look at themselves before the 2024 NFL season.
Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons attempted to address certain issues that the team is having. However, one notable NFL analyst is not cutting Parsons any slack. That analyst even took it a step further and said Parsons is part of the problem for the culture that the Cowboys have developed.
Bart Scott Says Micah Parsons Lacks Leadership Skills
On ESPN’s Get Up morning show, former NFL linebacker Bart Scott had a chance to comment on Parsons and the Cowboys moving forward. Scott was mainly reacting to a comment that Parsons made about the identity of the Cowboys currently. Here was that comment:
“That’s part of the culture and the identity that I just feel like we are missing.”
-Micah Parsons
Parsons is addressing the fact that the Cowboys have a culture problem. However, Scott criticized this quote because he believed Parsons was part of that cultural problem. Here is Scott’s full response to this:
“Attitude reflects leadership. Who is the leader of that team (Cowboys)? If you are going to be that generational player… you’re going to perform and make everybody else play. He’s lacking leadership.” -Bart Scott
Dak Prescott Not Responsible for Defense
Someone else attempted to counter Scott by saying it should be up to Cowboys QB Dak Prescott to be a leader. As a fellow linebacker, Scott quickly countered this by saying Prescott is not responsible for the defense. Scott believes someone on the defensive side of the ball needs to be a leader.
“I don’t expect Dak to get in a defensive player’s face and say, “not today.”” -Bart Scott
Dallas Cowboys Moving Forward
The Cowboys allowed 48 points in their wild card loss to the Packers. Now, they have to run it back without defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Despite head coach Mike McCarthy returning, his seat is hotter than ever. We will have to see if Parsons can respond to Scott’s words and take a bigger leadership role in 2024. Dallas is almost certainly expected to take a step forward from where they finished this season.
