The Green Bay Packers shocked the world earlier today. They defeated the Dallas Cowboys by a final score of 48-32. Considering the Packers led this game 27-0 in the second quarter, this game was not as close as the score indicated. With that said, the Packers’ impressive win made NFL postseason history.
First 7-Seed to Win a Playoff Game
In March 2020, the NFL announced that the league was expanding its postseason to 14 teams. That meant the AFC and NFC would get a seventh seed in the playoffs for each conference. However, the 7-seed did not have much luck in prior postseasons.
The 7-seed was 0-6 in the three previous seasons since the postseason expansion. Now, the Green Bay Packers finally break that curse. They become the first 7-seed to ever win an NFL playoff game by upsetting the Dallas Cowboys.
Green Bay Packers Moving Forward
So, what is the reward for the Packers now that they pulled off this historic win? Well, Green Bay gets to advance but it comes with a catch. Now, they have to go on the road and attempt to knock off the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers. However, given how they looked today against the Cowboys, we should not count them out of that game.
