New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones supported teammate Darius Slayton at the Gridiron Gala on Wednesday night. Jones is preparing for the 2024 season after suffering a season-ending torn ACL in Week 9 and has also had neck issues in the past.
The Giants brought in quarterback Drew Lock to compete with Jones for the starting quarterback job. Daniel Jones spoke to Dan Duggan of The Athletic about being ready for training camp this summer amongst other things that have happened and said:
“I’m focused on what I can control and that is preparing to play good football. So, getting healthy and I’ll be ready to go.”
He also added to Duggan that his rehab is going well:
“I’m in a good spot. I’ll be ready to go for training camp.”
That is good news for him that he will feel like he will be ready to go. General manager Joe Schoen thinks that he can very well be the Week 1 starter for the New York Giants.
New York Giants Daniel Jones and Drew Lock Can Very Well Be In an Intense Battle During Training Camp
It will be interesting to see where head coach Brian Daboll leans toward during the quarterback battle in the 2024 training camp. The Giants tried to trade up during the 2024 NFL Draft with the New England Patriots from sixth to third overall to go and get Drake Maye but failed to do so. New England wanted its next franchise quarterback and that is something that they didn’t want to trade away from.
Now that New York has Jones, Lock, and also Tommy DeVito on the roster at the quarterback position, we will see where this quarterback battle lands. DeVito will most likely be the third quarterback on the roster this season. There are times this season when he could be the backup quarterback.
One of the reasons why Lock left the Seattle Seahawks for the Giants is a chance to earn the starting quarterback job over Daniel Jones. Seattle is most likely going to start Geno Smith at the quarterback position this season.
Everyone across the league is going to want to know who is going to be the starting quarterback for the New York Giants next season. Jones and Lock may not be the long-term answer for the franchise anyways and they may be looking at quarterbacks in the class of 2025. Whoever wins this job, it won’t be the end of the quarterback carousel.
