Despite their rather frustrating loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 16, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy aren’t getting discouraged.
The Cowboys came so close to winning after Prescott gave them a one-point lead, 20-19, with a little over three minutes left on the clock. Unfortunately, the defense wasn’t able to hold on, with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa leading an epic drive to get to their 29-yard line and set up the game-winning field goal for Jason Sanders.
Penalties and a fumble in a scoring opportunity in the first quarter didn’t help the Cowboys as well, as they end up bowing down to the Dolphins 22-20.
After the game, Prescott shared a defiant message to the critics and disappointed fans doubting them. Dallas has been a poor team on the road, and that was evident again in their Week 16 game against the Dolphins. However, the Cowboys QB emphasized his belief on the team and their ability to turn things around.
“The confidence is high with this group. We understand that we can (beat good teams on the road) … and we will,” Dak Prescott said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
McCarthy, for his part, echoed the same sentiments as his Dallas Cowboys quarterback. With the loss, America’s Team is now more likely to have to play a game on the road in the playoffs. Sure enough, their 3-5 record on away games won’t raise hopes up, but the veteran head coach is confident his team can be “road warriors.”
“It was a juggernaut game. That’s what we expected,” McCarthy said of the loss to the Dolphins. “It’s a challenge in these games because you know it’s gonna come down to one play. And they probably made a play or two more than we did. It was a hard-fought game.
“We may have to go on the road, obviously, to get this done. I think we got a lot that we can draw from this. We got to play better than we did today, because you have to play above it on the road, and road warriors we will be.”
Hopefully, the Cowboys really learned their lesson. They need to be perfect if they want to beat the top teams, and if they can’t, it’ll surely be disastrous.
What Dak Prescott, Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys Need To Do Next
The Cowboys have now lost two in a row and dropped to 10-5 on the standings. They face the Detroit Lions next at home, where they are 7-0, before taking on the Washington Commanders on the road for the final game of the regular season.
Dallas will need to win their remaining games and hope the Philadelphia Eagles fumble for a shot at the NFC East top seed.
The NFC’s best record isn’t out of reach as well, at least for now, but they will need to hope that the San Francisco 49ers lose all their remaining three games to have a chance at it.
For now, all the Cowboys can do is focus on one game at a time. They cannot think too far ahead, especially with the current skid they are in.
