Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney has a 165-43 record at Clemson. But his program hasn’t been to the College Football Playoffs since he had Trevor Lawrence in the 2020 season. Swinney’s 2022 team finished 11-3 in his first year after his longtime defensive assistant and coordinator, Brent Venables, took the Oklahoma head coaching job.
The disappointing 2022 campaign was chalked up to being a rebuild by many in the national media. Clemson was ranked ninth to start the 2023 season. But they dropped immediately after suffering a 28-7 blowout loss to Duke in their first game of the season.
