With the transfer portal’s spring window officially open, the Colorado football program continues to bleed talent. On Monday, five players that suited up for head coach Deion Sanders in 2023 bounced for the portal, headlined by offensive lineman Savion Washington. Alongside Washington, rotational defenders Jaden Milliner-Jones and Chazz Wallace also made their transfer plans public.
The news of players leaving Colorado football did not stop there, with more publicizing their intent to depart on Tuesday. Shortly after offensive lineman David Conner entered the transfer portal, wide receiver and former Auburn transfer Tar’varish Dawson also entered the portal, leaving behind a short stint in Boulder, Colorado. The continued departures at Colorado will undoubtedly shake up their depth chart.
Tar’varish Dawson: Heading to Third School in Three Years
Ahead of the team’s spring exhibition game at the end of April, wide receiver Tar’varish Dawson has left Colorado football. Dawson, a former four-star mega prospect from Lehigh Acres, Florida, committed to Auburn out of high school. After not registering a reception as a freshman, Dawson caught two passes for 30 yards during the 2022 season. He entered the transfer portal following the season’s conclusion, leaving for Colorado under first-year head coach Deion Sanders.

Dawson played in seven games last year, catching 14 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball once for eight yards and a score. His best game of the year came in early September against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The five-foot-ten, 161-pound speedster caught three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. He also took his lone carry for a touchdown. Colorado won 36-14, moving to 2-0 on the season. Dawson’s transfer seemed predictable after the wideout had been dismissed from the team following a personal matter in late February. However, he made it official on Tuesday and will head to his third school in as many years.
Colorado Football: WR Room
Despite the potential to earn more playing time next fall, Tar’varish Dawson is out at Colorado. However, quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ top option remains the same, with two-way star Travis Hunter returning for his junior season. Hunter snagged 57 passes for 721 yards and five scores across nine games in 2023. Meanwhile, he tallied 30 tackles and three interceptions on defense. Jimmy Horn Jr., who finished second on the team in receptions last season, is also back for Colorado.
The Buffaloes will also welcome a trio of transfers into the receiver room. Former Vandy standout Will Sheppard could post big numbers in the Big 12 next season after accumulating 152 receptions, 2,067 yards, and 21 touchdowns across four seasons in the SEC. Terrell Timmons also joins Colorado from North Carolina State. He had 11 receptions for 195 yards last year. Lastly, La’Johntay Wester transferred to Colorado after posting a 1,100-yard receiving season with the FAU Owls in 2023.
