Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award last season. He recorded 42 tackles, 14 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three pass deflections.
Cleveland finished with an 11-6 record a season ago and was the fifth seed in the AFC before losing to the Houston Texans in the playoffs.
Garrett was often double-teamed a season ago for the Browns and was still impressive for Cleveland. This was the first time in his NFL career that he walked away with the Defensive Player of the Year Award. It may very well not be the last time it happens either.
Mykles Garrett has finished 10 or more sacks in every season except for his rookie season. He has yet to eclipse 20 or more sacks in a single season, but that is very hard to do and it is very rare territory.
NFL analyst, Charles Davis went onto 92.3 the FAN in Cleveland, Ohio this week to talk to them about Garrett.
Davis Makes a Bold Prediction about Cleveland Browns Defensive End Myles Garrett
Za’Darius Smith played on the other side of Garrett this past season with the Browns. Davis on 92.3 the Fan mentioned how if Myles Garrett got a running mate, he might get 25 sacks.
That is an extremely bold prediction, even for Myles Garrett. Michael Strahan of the New York Giants in 2001 and T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2021 season recorded 22.5 sacks in both of those seasons.
That is the goal that Garrett is going to have to catch. He wouldn’t need 25 sacks and he would need 23 sacks.
Anyhow, even if he were to get another quality pass rusher on the other side of him, opposing coaches are going to double and triple-team him no matter what.
If for some reason Garrett were to be a single team in every single season in a 1-on-1 matchup, then Charles Davis can very well be correct about him getting 25 sacks in a single season.
Even with having 17 games and not 16 games anymore, it is still a very hard feat to accomplish. Garrett is only 28 years old and is currently in the prime of his NFL career. He is a very dominant player and the only reason why he disappears is because teams double-team him.
Garrett can always wreck a game at any moment. He will always be in the running for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
