The Cleveland Browns must get under the cap by March 13, as they are roughly $7 million over the cap entering today.
Thankfully, their elite cornerback agreed to restructure his contract.
The Cleveland Browns restructured the contract of their 3x Pro Bowl cornerback.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Cleveland restructured the contract of Denzel Ward.
The team has converted $14.199 million of his base salary into a signing bonus, adding 1 void year, and freeing up $11.359 million in cap space.
As a result, his $14.199 million base salary will be spread evenly over the next five years.
Finally, his base salary will drop from $15.324 million to $1.125 million, and his cap number will drop from $23.604 million to $12.2448 million for 2024.
Ward signed a contract extension in 2022.
Cleveland signed Denzel Ward to a 5-year, $100.5 million contract extension on April 18.
Ward appeared in 14 games in 2022, recording 53 tackles, three interceptions, and 15 pass deflections and allowed 42 receptions on 69 targets for 530 yards, two touchdowns, and a 76.4 passer rating.
Ward appeared in 13 games and earned his third Pro Bowl in 2023, recording 34 tackles, two interceptions, 11 pass deflections, and one forced fumble and allowed 32 receptions on 66 targets for 338 yards, one touchdown, and a 56.2 passer rating.
Expect more roster moves in the coming weeks.
Cleveland now is $3.6 million under the cap and expect the team to make roster moves by restructuring or releasing players so they can sign free agents and their rookies from the 2024 draft class (once they get drafted).
Notable players who could restructure their contracts or get released include Amari Cooper, Nick Chubb, and Jack Conklin, to name a few.
