Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been at the forefront of the NFL world for the last few weeks due to his notorious “hold-in.”
Chase, who has two years left on his contract, wants a new contract from the Bengals front office and has been wearing street clothes to practice for the last few weeks up until Wednesday when he participated.
Ja’Marr Chase could play for the Cincinnati Bengals with no contract
In the midst of a questionable situation that had many Bengals fans concerned that their star wide receiver would not be on the field come week one, Chase has spoken out and revealed his plans for the opening game against the Patriots.
Chase said that there is a chance he will play against the Patriots even if he and the Bengals cannot agree to terms on a new contract. Chase didn’t commit to anything, but he said he wouldn’t rule out a “limited” role if the Bengals don’t reach an agreement with him.
Chase said it would be a “game-time decision” Sunday, but he also said that the contract negotiations are “pretty close,” giving even more hope to Bengals fans.

Chase: I’m confident it’ll get done. I know my worth, and I’m sure they know my worth too. I love Cincinnati.

Chase: we’re pretty close. A few numbers need to be switched around and changed.

Chase isn’t the only Bengals wide receiver with a questionable Sunday ahead. Fellow star wide receiver Tee Higgins sat out of practice Friday with a hamstring issue after being limited on Thursday.
Higgins said he feels “amazing” after the Thursday practice, so the complete absence on Friday has the Bengals faithful concerned. If the Bengals have to take on the Patriots without Chase and Higgins, they could struggle to get off to a fast start for the 2024 season.
