The Chicago Bears have the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to last year’s trade with the Carolina Panthers. In that deal, Chicago got wide receiver DJ Moore, the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, a second round pick last year, a first round pick in 2024, and a second round pick in 2025. The Panthers, of course, got the number one overall pick last year, which they used on quarterback Bryce Young.

While Carolina may have some buyers remorse, Chicago certainly does not. Moore is easily the team’s best wide receiver and will be part of their long-term future. The first round pick became the number one selection when Young and the Panthers finished with the NFL’s worst record.
Rumors Have Swirled that the Chicago Bears Could Trade the #1 Pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
Ever since the Panthers clinched the number one overall pick for the Bears, there has been a huge debate among Bears fans, media, and those who follow the NFL in general over what Chicago should do with the pick.
After all, the Bears already have former first round pick Justin Fields at quarterback, and the prospect of building a team around him is exciting to many. Many believe that Chicago should trade the top pick for a king’s ransom and add weapons around Fields that will help him be successful.
Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles Seems Intent on Keeping the #1 Pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
When addressing the media at the combine today, Bears general manager Ryan Poles revealed that there actually have not been many talks involving the number one overall pick:
#Bears GM Ryan Poles says he hasn’t had any “big-time conversations” with teams about possibly trading out of No. 1 but a lot of clubs have checked in to take the “temperature.” Says it would have to “help our organization significantly” to trade out.

While he would not rule out trading to top overall selection, it certainly seems that it would take a much bigger package than Chicago received from Carolina last year to make the deal happen.
Of course, this is because the Bears have the opportunity to draft USC quarterback Caleb Williams, a prospect some are calling “generational.” After three seasons with Fields and little-to-no improvement, it may be time for a change under center.
What Will the Chicago Bears Do with Justin Fields?
The Bears do not seem to be willing to do what their rivals, the Green Bay Packers, have done and let their young quarterback sit behind a veteran for a while before starting. If they do take Williams with the number one pick, he will be their immediate starter.
This means that Fields will be traded. One would assume that Poles would like to get a deal done before the draft in the hopes of adding extra picks in any potential trade. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons are two quarterback-needy teams that are rumored to be interested in the Ohio State product.
