Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields just wants a break from all the noise. That was the reason he gave when he was recently asked he decided to quit following the team on Instagram. It’s really not a big deal, but in the social media era, what seems like a trivial move can quickly snowball into a controversial one. Among the online topics that apparently got Fields tired was the discourse about USC Trojans product and potential No. 1 pick at the 2024 NFL Draft Caleb Williams (via Courtney Cronin of ESPN).
“It’s something that I don’t want to see on my timeline. I’m about to go on vacation. I don’t want to see no football. And guess what? [The social media discourse is] either keep Fields, we want Fields. It’s either draft Caleb [Williams]. I’m tired of hearing the talk. I just want it to be over.”
The Chicago Bears Have A Decision To Make Regarding Justin Fields
The Bears own the top pick at the upcoming draft (through the Carolina Panthers), and it’s a selection that has inspired a ton of speculations, mainly about the future of Fields in Windy City. Many believe that the Bears will take a quarterback with that pick (likely Williams), which could mean that Chicago is done with Fields. It is understandable on the part of Fields to get fatigued and annoyed by all the discussion involving his name. The man probably just wants to relax in the offseason. Even without people talking, it’s fair to say that Fields is thinking about his short-term outlook in the NFL. After all, it is his career.
In any case, it will be so interesting to see what exactly the Chicago Bears will do with their No. 1 pick. They can trade it or keep it. Either way, it’s likely going to impact Fields.
