The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most talked about NFL teams this off-season. One of the main focuses has been their wide receiver core. Here we will discuss who the Steelers could still target to fill their WR2 role.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Over the past few months, many rumors have swelled about the Pittsburgh Steelers trading for a big-name receiver to replace Dionte Johnson. The Steelers traded Johnson this offseason to the Carolina Panthers. The Steelers were rumored to be trading for guys like Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and DK Metcalf. After the NFL draft, those rumors started to slow down.
The Steelers do not have a long history of trading for wide receivers. The last time the Steelers traded for a big-name receiver was in World War II. The Pittsburgh Steelers could still be in the market to trade for a receiver, maybe just not a top-tier one.

Trade Candidates
The Steelers have brought in lots of wide receivers this offseason, but none of them are going to fill the hole left at WR2. Here are a few candidates that the Steelers could still trade for.
Treylon Burks – Tennessee Titans
The Titans have completely revamped their receiving core this offseason. With yesterday’s signing of Tyler Boyd, it seems that Burks has lost his starting role. Burks was a first-round pick in 2021 but has yet to live up to the hype he had coming out of college. Burks would be a cheap trade candidate who still has the potential to be a great NFL receiver.

Jahan Dotson – Washington Commanders
Very similar to Burks, Jahan Dotson was a first-round pick in 2021 that has not panned out. He has been a solid WR2 for the Commanders, but with a new front office, the Commanders could be looking to move on. Dotson would slot right into the Pittsburgh Steelers WR2 role, while still being cheap to trade for.

JuJu Smith-Schuster – New England Patriots
One trade candidate that has not been brought up much is JuJu returning to the Steelers. JuJu is currently on the Patriots but is not slated to be a starter in 2024. Bringing JuJu back would be very cheap, while also giving him a chance to get back to how he was during his first couple years with Pittsburgh.
John Metchie – Houston Texans
John Metchie is in a similar situation as Smith-Schuster. They are both good receivers that are not projected to start in 2024. Metchie was a top-50 pick in 2022 but missed his rookie season due to battling cancer. Metchie has never gotten a real shot to showcase his talent in the NFL. At only 23 years old Metchie is still full of potential and would be a great piece to add to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.
