CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus confirmed a decision this week that will frustrate many viewers of the Super Bowl Pregame Show on Sunday. CBS typically airs an interview with the POTUS before the big game each year.
Joe Biden turned down CBS Sports

However, President Joe Biden declined the interview offer from CBS for this year’s Super Bowl. Biden will now skip his second Super Bowl pregame show. Biden’s decision was unusual for an unpopular president facing an election in November.
Biden made the choice in a week filled with conspiracies on the right about a possible collusion with Biden, Taylor Swift, the Department of Defense, and the NFL. One has to wonder if that played into Biden’s decision.
Donald Trump volunteered for the pregame show

Biden’s expected foe in the general election, former President Donald Trump, volunteered on his Truth Social website to sit down for an interview on CBS pregame show:
Crooked Joe Biden has just announced that he will not be doing the big Super Bowl Interview. A great decision, he can’t put two sentences together. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO REPLACE HIM – would be “RATINGS GOLD!”

Per Armando Salguero with Fox News, reporters asked McManus on Tuesday if CBS Sports would take the former President up on his offer for an interview since Biden declined. McManus said CBS Sports would not air an interview with Trump because they did not want to make the show political:
“We’re producing a football pregame show, not a political show,” McManus said, interrupting again.
“There’s no precedent for having any political figure other than the president give the interview,” McManus said. “Fair enough?”
Trump fans and some swing voters who are skeptics of mainstream media will not be impressed by their decision to exclude the former President from their programming on Sunday.
The invitation to Biden made the situation political, to begin with. Granted, even in prior election years, the tradition is for the sitting President to be interviewed.
But typically, the President accepts.
Fortunately for the country, fans can have one more great day of football before much of the nation’s attention turns toward the 2024 general election.
