BYU beats Boise State in comeback style on the Smurf Turf as they close out this rivalry with a 31-28 Cougar Victory. This week whatever the Cougars did at practice or the changes that were made worked. With many key players out the Cougars overcame the adversity and won which is hard to do in Boise. Also surprising many and with a win, in two weeks the Cougars will be bowl eligible. This 31-28 win over Boise State puts BYU at 5-5 on the season.
Players with a Great Game
Micah Harper
Micah Harper had seven tackles and played amazing for the Cougar’s defense. He stepped up for Wilgar, Tooley, and Ah You.
Ben Bywater
Bywater had nine tackles and once again led the team in tackles.
Puka Nacua
Nacua the Cougars would have lost last night without him. He played to peak performance and refused to let the ball hit the ground. With 157 yards and two touchdowns to give the Cougars the win.
Jaren Hall
Hall has come back and wasn’t showing any signs of being injured last night. He led the offense in rushing yards with 82 yards. Hall passed for 377 yards three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Players who Stood Out
Hinkley Ropati
Ropati came off the bench with some running backs out and gained some much-needed yards to help the Cougars win. He will be another great weapon for them to utilize for years to come. Ropati should see more time after this showing and maybe even take some more reps with the first-stringers.
Chase Roberts
Robert came back and had another good game for the Cougars after not playing the last couple of weeks. He played and also helped the offense out with winning this game. With the few yards he caught but he got some nice blocks in the given Hall some more time.
Players who Struggled
Talan Alfrey
Alfrey had so many missed tackles last night that thankfully didn’t cost them the game. He has struggled all year with this so who else can play that they could put in beside him?
Harris LaChance
Coming off the bench he gave Hall plenty of time to throw the ball but he needed to remember to count. He also hasn’t seen much time but he played well for the Cougars last season as a starter.
Offense
The offense played stellar last night as they came back from their four-game skid. The coaching on fourth down needs to remember that they have a special team for a reason. With this performance as BYU beats Boise State going into the bye week I hope that it can only get better from there and maybe we can see a win over Stanford as well.
Defense
With several stars out they did their best. With many backups playing there are still some questions on defense. Is it the coaching or is it the players? The run defense took a step in the right direction as they were able to hold Boise State to 104 rushing yards. The line also looked a lot better and got many stops the upfront.
