The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots are long time rivals now. The Patriots have been looking for who will be the next general manager for the team after the loss of Bill Belichick who wore both the head coach and GM caps for their team for 25 years.
New England and owner Robert Kraft reportedly tried to interview a member of the Bills front office for their opening at general manger but they were turned down by their rival.
Buffalo Bills’ Terrance Gray Turns Down Robert Kraft
The Patriots opted to go by committee to make decisions for the draft, but now they are looking to fill the GM role officially.
According to Albert Breer, New England reached out to Terrance Gray, the director of player personnel for the Bills to be interviewed for their GM opening. Gray turned them down however, which is quite shocking when the job opening is the general manager.
Perhaps Gray knows that they would only interview him to satisfy the Roony Rule, and they are not actually interested in giving him the job. Or Gray may just not want to go to an arch division rival.
Despite all of this, Elliot Wolf, who was the effective GM for the Patriots during the draft, is expected to take up the mantle as general manager going forward. Gray was reported to really like his position with the Bills and had no intention of leaving for a division rival.
He said that he is dedicated to bringing a Super Bowl to Buffalo and he is going to stay put.
New England Patriots Have A LOT To Figure Out
It is safe to assume that Wolf will end up getting the gig as owner Robert Kraft and the organization knows him very well, and believes in him. Wolf would then become the main decision maker for the team when it comes to roster.
The team has been making tons of moves throughout the entire off season with bringing in a new head coach in Jerod Mayo and a new franchise quarterback in Drake Maye. Now they are looking to officially hire their GM.
The team will need to continue to add talent around their young quarterback, in addition to bolstering the defensive line. The team is coming off their worst season in decades, and has missed the playoffs in three of the last four years. The new empire in New England will try to get back to their winning ways, but it will take a lot more moves over the next few seasons.
