The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs have a long-standing rivalry on the football field. However, the tragic events in Kansas City have led the Bills Mafia, the staunch and unwavering supporters of Buffalo, to come out with a heartwarming gesture to aid in the aftermath of the violence during Kansas City’s Super Bowl championship parade.
Buffalo Bills Fans Make Substantial Donation to Children’s Hospital in Kansas City
Bills fans are known to be one of the most passionate supporters in all of the NFL. However, they’ve also established a reputation for themselves as a compassionate bunch that extends a helping hand to those in need.
Buffalo supporters are at it again after a fan started a donation campaign for the Children’s Hospital of Kansas City on Reddit. Bills Mafia co-founder Del Reid then went on to encourage the people of Buffalo to donate $22 to the hospital to honor the 22 victims of the heinous shooting.
“It would break my heart for Buffalo to finally have a championship parade and for something like that to happen,” Reid told KSHB 41 (h/t Jonathan Alfano of SI). “It breaks my heart that it happened to Chiefs fans … for something that is supposed to be — like you mentioned a moment ago — a communal celebration, for it to end like that. It just — it sucks. I wish I had a better way to articulate it, but it just sucks for there to be a loss of life and for people — children — to be injured.”
According to reports, one person died as a result of the shooting while 22 others have been treated for injuries. Most of the victims were children.
“At the end of the day, we’re all humans, right?” Reid said. “We’re all in this thing called life together. If somebody’s hurting, just because they cheer for the wrong team, you still want to help however you can.”
If there is any positive that has come from this senseless act of violence, it’s that there has once again been an outpouring of compassion and support for the victims.
“It’s an honor to be able to do it,” Reid said. “It sucks that there’s a reason that we have to do it. But anytime we can show love and support and let people know that are hurting that there’s people on the other side of the country that care about them, we’ve got to take that opportunity.”
