A couple of months ago, former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre posted on social media that he did not like the fact that various popstars and other celebrities were using their platforms to endorse candidates for President of the United States. At the time, he said that people should do their own research instead of listening to their favorite athlete or singer.

More specifically, Favre was critical of popstar Taylor Swift for endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris and the millions of fans that had positive reactions to said endorsement.

His views on famous athletes and other celebrities endorsing political candidates do not seem to apply to himself, however. On Wednesday night, the Pro Football Hall of Famer was a featured speaker at Donald Trump‘s rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

While speaking at Trump’s rally in Green Bay, Favre compared the former President and his vision for America to the Packers organization, saying, “Much like the Packer organization, Donald Trump and his organization is a winner. And the United States of America won with his leadership.”

Much like the candidate he is endorsing, Favre is battling some legal issues that have put his name in the headlines over the last couple of years. These accusations, which of course are tied to his alleged role in the Mississippi welfare scandal, were a common theme in fans’ reactions to his remark:

Reminder Favre stole $1.1MM TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) funds in Mississippi – the poorest state in the union – and still owes $730,000 to the state. https://t.co/4GQNQQ4BTb pic.twitter.com/89d6TvH1f3

You mean the organization that has 1 Super Bowl win in the 21st century? https://t.co/JRHeXgsqlX

    — Charlie Parker (@cmparker999) October 30, 2024

As one can see from the comments, many fans chose to focus on Favre’s and Trump’s legal troubles in response. Many others not included above point to the fact that the Packers have only won a single Super Bowl this century and only two in 30 years with Hall of Fame quarterback play.
