Odell Beckham Jr. had some radical statements about the New York Giants, his first team, trading him to the Cleveland Browns. The Baltimore Ravens have been relaxing and waiting for their playoffs to start after getting the 1 seed with an incredible regular season with the probable MVP at the helm in Lamar Jackson.
As Baltimore prepares to face the Houston Texans who have looked unbelievable behind rookie sensation CJ. Stroud, OBJ had some crazy comments about his first team the Giants saying that they intentionally screwed him by trading him to the Browns. Beckham joined the Punch Line Podcast to look back on the now questionable trade.
Beckham made some big statements about the Giants on the podcast and clearly, he still holds a grudge against the team that drafted him for sending him to Cleveland as opposed to one of the top teams in the league. He was quoted in the podcast saying:
“There’s semi a bit of me that feel like the Giants sent me off, I’ve said it before, sent me off to Cleveland to die,” he said. “I could have went to the 49ers, I could have went to the Patriots, I could have went to teams that had a chance to be great and that’s not what their desire was. You can’t tell me that this was the best trade package that we could have got for you.
In hindsight, he may be right as his career fizzled for a bit with the Browns until he found a new team in the Los Angeles Rams and won a Super Bowl with them sparking his career again.
Odell Beckham Sound Off On New York Giants For Awful Trade
Beckham started his career looking like he would go down as one of the best to ever do it. His rookie year was sensational even though he missed a bit of time to injury, and it looked like Eli Manning and him had formed one of the best receiver-quarterback duos in the league.
Odell just had to much off field drama and once Eli Manning was retiring they traded the elite receiver to Cleveland, or according to Beckham, they traded him to Siberia. Odell continued his rant on the Giants saying:
“[They] felt like I made a fool of you or the organization and that was truly never my intention. I’m just that competitive. I just wanted to win.”
Beckham fizzled quite a bit when he went to the Browns, and in hindsight he was right that the trade to Cleveland ruined part of his career. Thankfully for him he was able to get to a contender in the Rams and won a Super bowl.
Now, he is on the best team in the NFL and has another incredible opportunity with the Ravens to get back to the Super Bowl and win his second one. The Ravens will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs and they have been clicking in a big way heading into their first playoff game. While star tight end Mark Andrews may be coming back, the Ravens will lean on OBJ for offensive production.
OBJ was screwed by the Giants in that trade, but in the long run it may have been good for him as he is now on a second title contender in three years and has the opportunity to be a two time champion with two different teams, a feat that very few in the NFL have achieved.
