The New York Jets were on the verge of something of a cross roads. Potentially facing a franchise altering decision, owner Woody Johnson had a choice to make. To bring swooping change, and overhaul the entire operations of the New York Jets, or to stick it out with everyone, hoping for a better turnout in 2024.
New York Jets Organization Staying The Same
Apparently, encouraged by the signs that he saw by this team, to stay in games, despite the quarterback situation, and a very promising recovery of Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets are bringing the band back for the 2024 season.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport, sources close to the New York Jets organization have made it clear that there will be no moves to fire head coach Robert Saleh, or to get rid of GM Joe Douglas. With this level of security that is now in the building, offensive coordinator Nathanial Hackett is also expected to be brought back again next year.
New York Jets Post Opening Game
This answers a looming questions that was hanging over the New York Jets, and erases questions. Despite a season that will not end in a playoff appearance, the New York Jets fared better than anticipated. After losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers, minutes after carrying the American flag onto the field, a ruptured achilles ended his season. Despite this setback, Aaron Rodgers did everything in his power to try to make it back onto the field.
For an injury that normally takes closer to a year to fully recover from, a new procedure allowed Aaron Rodgers to get back to practice, and take snaps during drill sessions. Even being able to walk without a boot was seen as something of a miracle. They are doubling down, and banking on the fact that this was not a publicity stunt, but truly an effort that will lead to Aaron Rodgers being able to produce again in 2024.
New York Jets Next Year
With how the defense has looked, the they were in games this year, and despite the limited quarterback play and losses, nearly found themselves in the playoff hunt until the bitter end. Regardless of how Aaron Rodgers looks next season, it is hard to argue that he would be able to play any worse than some of the QB performances that we have seen from the New York Jets this season.
You have to think with at least competent QB play, this team would be a safe bet for at least a Wild Card spot, especially considering how their AFC East counterparts can have up and down performances throughout the year themselves.
The New York Jets are hoping that Aaron Rodgers will prove to be the difference next year, and be able to propel this team next year to higher levels of play
. In a sense, it is a good thing that the ball did not bounce in their direction a couple of times, and that the New York Jets were unable to make it close decision for Aaron Rodgers to consider returning this year.
With a full offseason, and more time to heal from his procedure, the New York Jets will have a better chance to achieve success with how everything is currently constructed. Will it be enough?
