The Minnesota Vikings have not had the best luck at the quarterback position this season. Their franchise guy Kirk Cousins went down a couple of weeks ago with a torn Achilles and will be out for the rest of the 2023 season, and his backup Jaren Hall was injured in last week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Since then, Joshua Dobbs, the quarterback they signed from the Arizona Cardinals, has been named the starter. However, Minnesota is now signing another quarterback as of Wednesday.

Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Situation
The Vikings have signed quarterback Tanner Morgan from the Pittsburgh Steelers to their practice squad. Although this move is not putting Dobbs’ job in jeopardy, it will add some much-needed depth to Minnesota’s thinning quarterback room if Dobbs were to get suddenly injured. Before signing Morgan, it was only Sean Mannion behind Dobbs if he were to go down.
Morgan signed with the Vikings practice squad back in October after backup Nick Mullens was put on the injury reserve with a back injury. He was helping the Vikings in practice leading up to their game against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, just a few days later, Morgan was released by the team and was replaced by Mannion. But now, Morgan has returned to the team’s practice squad to likely serve as the backup to Mannion.
Tanner Morgan
Morgan was the starter when he was going to college at the University of Minnesota. He started 47 of the 51 games that he participated in and was able to amount to a 33-14 record as a starter. His 33 wins are the most by a Minnesota quarterback ever, and he has completed 661 passes for 9,454 yards, which both are the second most in school history.
The Vikings are currently 5-4 and sit in second place in the NFC North. They will face off against the New Orleans Saints this upcoming week at home, which will be a good test to see if Dobbs can keep his mojo going. If something happens to him and he gets hurt, Mannion and Morgan will be the only two options at quarterback for the team.
