New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr went out of the game in week three against the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury that worried NFL fans around the world. Derek Carr Impact
Derek Carr signed with the Saints this year after playing nine seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Carr has cemented himself as one of the better quarterbacks currently in the league. In his career, Carr has amounted to 35,858 passing yards and 219 touchdowns. He has been a great addition to New Orleans so far, throwing for 636 yards and two touchdowns to start the season.
This injury update should be relieving for Saints fans as Carr will not miss the entirety of the 2023 season. He has not yet been ruled out for their week four matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is listed as week-to-week.
Understanding the Injury
It has been confirmed that Carr suffered a sprained AC joint, which is located in the shoulder. Common ways of spraining this joint are falling hard onto your shoulder, falling onto an outstretched hand, and getting a direct blow to your shoulder. In Derek Carr’s case, video evidence shows that his cause of injury was falling hard onto his shoulder after being twisted around by Packers’ defenders.

What the Saints Do From Here
If Carr is unable to participate in the Saints’ week four matchup, New Orleans has either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill to fall back on. Both are not horrible, but certainly not at the level of play that Carr is. We will keep you updated throughout the week as Carr recovers from this injury.
