Bill Belichick is considered the GOAT of NFL Coaches by many, but that didn’t seem to help him land a head coaching job this past offseason. After applying for and failing to land a head coaching job with another team, many began to wonder what would be next for the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach. it appears he may have finally landed a gig, but not where you may think.
Bill Belichick Just Wasn’t The Right Fit Anywhere
If Bill Belichick just wanted to coach in the NFL, there is no doubt that he could have landed a head coaching job somewhere. However, he seems to have one goal: to become the winningest coach in NFL history. To do so, Belichick needs 26 wins. With the perfect fit, this can be done in two seasons; with a decent team, it can be done in three, but for most teams that fire a coach, it often could mean four seasons.
For a breakdown, here is the minimum number of wins Belichick would need to reach his goal per year:
- Two seasons: 13 wins per season
- Three seasons: 8.33 wins per season
- Four seasons: 6.75 wins per season
Teams rarely go from being a five- or six-win team to having a winning record in a single season. For that reason, teams like the Washington Commanders and Arizona Cardinals weren’t very attractive options for Belichick. However, a team like the Falcons (7-10) was potentially a great fit for Belichick because a lot of the pieces to be successful were already in place, and jumping from a 7-10 to 10-7 record is very realistic. For Belichick, the possibility of becoming the most winning coach of all time in two seasons was on the table, but certainly likely in three years.
However, after interviewing twice with Atlanta, the Falcons decided to go another direction and hire Raheeem Morris.
Bill Belichick Finds Job For 2024 Season
When you think of Bill Belichick, TV personality isn’t necessarily the first thing you may think of. Yet, following a report by Athletic, it appears that TV may be what Belichick does in 2024.
Andrew Marchard shared the following in his article:
“While a deal with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions is not yet fully agreed upon, it is moving in that direction. The “Manningcast” was on ESPN’s networks for 10 of the network’s 25 games last season. Belichick would not be on for every game but would appear pretty regularly during the season, which would be a new wrinkle for the show. In its first three years, guests appeared once during a season.”
Again, Bill Belichick and TV personality don’t exactly go together, at least on the surface, yet if there is a place where he may thrive, it may just be on the Manningcast. The Manning cast is very laid-back and comedic broadcasts of Monday Night Football, which, again, does not sound like Belichick’s kind of gig. But if the Manning brothers can get a few jokes out of ‘The Hoodie, ‘ it could go a long way in getting high ratings and being successful.
Belichick and the Manning Brothers Have History
Bill Belichick and the Manning brothers have plenty of history together, and it hasn’t always been the best. Most notably, in 2012, while the Patriots were seeking an undefeated season, Eli Manning and the New York Giants upset the Patriots in the Super Bowl, ending that dream with a 21-17 win. Eli Manning and the Giants also beat the Patriots in 2008 in the Super Bowl 17-14.
Peyton Manning, despite being in the same conference, never faced off in the playoffs. In head-to-head matchups, Belichick held the overall lopsided edge with a 13-6 record over the Hall of Fame quarterback.
