Just one month away from the start of the 2024 College Football season, one of the storylines that will dominate the headlines all season will be the new 12-team College Football Playoff. For the G5 teams, it means an automatic opportunity for someone. It also means an automatic spot for the winner of the Big 10, Big 12, ACC, and SEC. However, for the Big 10 and SEC, it isn’t a matter of which team will make the playoff but how many teams will make it. Some have suggested that the SEC could send four teams to the playoffs (the…

The College Football Playoff is expanding to 12 teams this year which means for the first time ever, all 134 FBS schools have a shot at making the playoff. In the past, to make it, one of two things had to happen; either go undefeated and hope everyone else loses a ton of games (Cincinnati), or be a big enough brand and go undefeated or have one excusable loss. For teams like Appalachian State, UNLV, Boise State, and, in last year’s case, Florida State, nothing could be done to guarantee a spot in the Playoff. Now, if a team goes…

The SEC Media Poll has been released, with more surprises than you may think. Unlike the Big 12, where the media poll doesn’t seem to predict where teams will finish accurately, the SEC has historically at least been pretty close to being accurate. Results of the SEC Media Poll Here are the full results: https://twitter.com/RossDellenger/status/1814330087350694101?t=Xa965CxMbko_zZSBhCk_UQ&s=19 It is unsurprising that Georgia, Texas, and Alabama are the first three teams and that Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt are the lowest. Still, there are a few surprises everywhere else. Here are three of the biggest surprises. Georgia’s Margin of Ranking The top four…

Alabama has one of the most iconic stadium names in college football. Some very well-known stadiums are ‘The Big House,’ ‘Happy Valley,’ or ‘The Swamp,’ but all are nicknames for the stadium named after a legendary coach, player, or huge donor. Bryant-Denny Stadium is an exception to the rule. Very few other stadiums are immediately recognized as the school they represent when their actual name is mentioned. Perhaps the only exceptions are Neyland Stadium (Tennessee) and Lavell Edwards Stadium (BYU).  History of Bryant-Denny Stadium Bryant-Denny Stadium was constructed in 1929 and was originally named Denny Stadium to honor Georg Denny,…

The SEC is known as the best college football conference in all of college football (sorry, Big 10, but it’s true). In today’s game, having an elite defense, a great running back, or an effective line can get a team to a bowl game, but it is no longer enough to get more than eight or nine wins. To be successful, a team needs to have an elite quarterback. Historically, the SEC has not been known for elite quarterback play. In the 2000s, the best quarterbacks, for the most part, came from outside the conference. Instead, the league was filled…

Everyone knows that college football is in a spot where teams are just trying to survive and stay relevant. With the SEC and Big 10 breaking away from the rest of college football at a rate that we’ve never seen before, the ACC and Big 12 are trying to do whatever they can to stay at the top. The Pac-12’s recent collapse has left the ACC and Big 12 as the only remaining Power Conferences. Both claim to be the third-best league in college football, but which one is? Top Brands: ACC When you look at top teams in the…

The SEC College football media days have been centered around Texas. Even though teams, the media, and players for months have been claiming that Texas was going to be just another member of the conference, you wouldn’t know that walking around SEC Media Days. Up to this point, outside of a few small side storylines, such as the SEC’s lack of interest in expansion and the lack of details on how a tiebreaker will work in conference now that there are no divisions, the topics have been constant, and they all revolve around Texas. Storylines Surrounding Texas Everyone knew Texas…

ESPN has officially released the Top 100 players of the 21st century (so far), and in total 12 players from the NFL made the list. Interestingly, unlike other lists that seem to only look at quarterbacks, there were only four quarterbacks who made the list. According to ESPN, figuring out the Top 100 players of the 21st century was much deeper than just getting a group of sports analysts and creating the list. According to their site, this how they determined the rankings. Experts in individual sports were asked to vote to rank the top athletes in their sport since…

The UFL quietly held its draft today, and players were selected from a pool of more than 12,000 eligible players. The draft showed a shift in how the UFL is being viewed around the country, and it shows that the league’s future is very strong. Historically, Spring League Players Are Unknown In the past, whether it was the USFL, XFL, or any other spring league, the players on the teams were primarily unknown to the common fan. For example, just two years ago, some of the starting quarterbacks in the USFL were Jordan Ta’amu, Case Cookus, and J’Mar Smith. This…

More than ever, College Football is not fair. With a new 12-team playoff, a team no longer has to go 11-1 or better to have an outside shot of making the CFP. Because of this, a schedule is now much more than a schedule. Factors such as SOS will be looked at under a microscope and evaluated. For example, if you read yesterday’s “3 Toughest Schedules”, those teams may get away with going 9-3 and still getting the same look and opportunity as a team that goes 11-1 on this list. For the criteria on this list, there will be…
