Nothing is going to matter for the Kansas Chiefs in the years ahead more than solidifying the offensive line in front of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes and the offense wilted under a constant barrage of pressure from the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense in a 40-22 blowout loss in Super Bowl LIX, on the heels of a season that saw the three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback sacked a career-high 36 times.
As the NFL Draft approaches, the Chiefs are going to need to expend significant capital rebuilding the offensive line, potentially prioritizing a tackle with the No. 31 overall pick.
Kansas City Chiefs Linked to Rising Offensive Lineman
Pro Football Focus NFL analyst Mason Cameron suggests that North Dakota State offensive tackle Grey Zabel may be the perfect fit for the Chiefs to begin rebuilding the offensive line.
“With uncertainty and inconsistent play at three of the five offensive line spots,” Cameron writes for PFF. “Kansas City could benefit from adding a versatile piece like Zabel. The FCS standout earned a 90.4 PFF grade at left tackle for NDSU and proved at the Senior Bowl that he can handle multiple positions.”
Zabel was one of the most dominant players on the field leading up to the Senior Bowl and likely helped skyrocket his NFL Draft stock. The Chiefs may need to invest multiple picks along the offensive line, but Zabel would be a solid start to a rebuild.
