The Arizona Cardinals have been busy filling out their receiver room this summer. On top of having their sights set on picking Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft with the No. 4 pick, Arizona managed to keep Greg Dortch by tendering a qualifying offer, and now they’re looking to get a similar deal done to keep one of their free agent wideouts.
According to NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry, the Arizona Cardinals are keen on bringing back Marquise Brown amid interest in the open market. Brown is valued at having an annual salary of $14.8 million, but Arizona has the financial means to do so since they have over $51 million in cap space to work with.
“If Marvin Harrison Jr. is there at 4 when the Cardinals pick, they are absolutely taking him,” one source told Berry. “I was also told not to be surprised if the Cards bring back Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown on a one-year deal.”
Is re-signing Marquise Brown the right decision for the Arizona Cardinals?
One main reason why the Arizona Cardinals might keep Marquise Brown is because of his close relationship with their quarterback, Kyler Murray. Earlier this year, Murray went on record, saying he would love it if Brown played for them again next season.
“I am hoping he comes back,” said Murray, who played at Oklahoma with Brown in college. “I let them (Arizona Cardinals front office) do their thing, but I would love for him to be back.”
Marquise Brown is coming off yet another lackluster campaign with the Arizona Cardinals, as he only recorded 51 receptions for 574 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
For the second consecutive season since getting traded from the Baltimore Ravens, the 26-year-old wideout didn’t play all of the team’s regular-season games due to injuries.
Re-signing Brown to a one-year deal is a win-win situation for both sides, as the Arizona Cardinals could retain one of Kyler Murray’s favorite targets, while Marquise Brown would get another chance to prove his worth.
